The winemakers of this picturesque village of Burgundy will welcome you on the weekend of 25th and 26th of January to taste its feast.
The Saint-Vincent Tournante honors the patron saint of winegrowers, a wine festival during which an appellation invites the other wine brotherhoods of Burgundy in its village to introduce them to their own traditions and craftsmanship, generally the last weekend of January. These celebrations have been commemorated since 1938, and we are now in the 76th edition. Gevrey-Chambertin is full of superlatives as its history and heritage linked to wine are rich and unique. This is the largest vineyard in the Côte-d'Or with its 550 hectares, the name of Gevrey-Chambertin shines across the world and over time. "Wine of kings, king of wines", sanctified by Victor Hugo, drunk by Napoleon I, the Chambertin rises above the pyramid of wines, supported by nine Grands Crus something unique in Burgundy.
This illuminated Saint-Vincent weekend will begin on the Saturday morning with a parade of a hundred banners and statues of Saint-Vincent from all brotherhoods who will cross the village. This procession will be marked by a tribute to the monument to the dead, will continue at the Saint-Aignan church with a religious ceremony and will end with the enthronement of former winegrowers in the Brotherhood of the Knights of Tastevin. Indeed, the village of Gevrey-Chambertin will adorn itself with its finest attire, the weekend will be festive and decorated for the occasion with a thousand and one colors. As well as with decorations on the theme of Pinot Noir aromas, the grape variety of Burgundy terroir par excellence. The village represents 18 producers and 26 climates in the Côte de Nuits classified Premier Crus for 1 unique grape variety but 9 Grands Crus! In short, a wine tourism village at its best, where the culture of the vine dates back to the 2nd century.
Walkers could stroll through the village to discover folk troupes, street artists, brass concert...or where even tasting cellars will offer you a taste to different cuvées especially prepared for the occasion, with 5 racy and elegant vintages: 2009, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018. Two evenings will also be completed by gourmet dinners with fine food and wine pairings, during which charity sales of old Crus will be led by former French Olympic medalists athletes and paced to the sound of Japanese drums to recall the next Olympic Games in Tokyo. The whole small family will be treated to activities specially designed for very young to experimented winelovers, in practice more details are already available on the dedicated websites to the week-end: https://gevreychambertin-svt2020.com or https://gevreychambertin-svt2020.fr/les-banquets-de-saint-vincent/.
